the developers apologize for

Unfortunately, this has become commonplace. After a chaotic launch comes the apology, and now it’s the turn of the game The Lord of the Rings Gollum to submit to the painful exercise of the public mea culpa. Indeed, following the catastrophic tests of their game (39% average on Metacritic), the developers of Daedalic Entertainment split a long message on their various social networks to justify such a result. They explain that they have read all the feedback from the players, listened to the criticisms and explain that they have worked diligently to resolve as many technical problems as possible before the game’s release. The German studio therefore apologizes for having disappointed the players who unfortunately did not able to enjoy the experience that was promised.

Dear players,

We would like to sincerely apologize for the disappointing experience many of you had with The Lord of the Rings: Gollum upon its release. We acknowledge and deeply regret that the game did not live up to the expectations we set for ourselves or our dedicated community. Please accept our sincere apologies for any disappointment this may have caused.

Our goal as a studio and as passionate fans of The Lord of the Rings has always been to tell an engaging and immersive story-driven adventure. Crafting a story with Middle-earth as our playground has been the greatest honor – and the biggest challenge we’ve faced so far.

At Daedalic, we understand that the success of a game is based on the pleasure and satisfaction of its players. We really appreciate your feedback and have actively listened to your voices, read your feedback, and analyzed the constructive criticism and suggestions you have provided.

Our development team has worked diligently to fix bugs and technical issues that many of you have encountered. We are committed to providing you with fixes that will allow you to fully enjoy the game.

Once again, we deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding during this time. We will continue to update you on our progress and provide transparent communication regarding upcoming fixes and improvements. Your passion and dedication as gamers has been the driving force behind our determination to make it right.

Thank you for your support. Sincerely,

Daedalic Entertainment

That said, while Daedalic Entertainment is going back to technique and bugs, the evil for The Lord of the Rings Gollum runs much deeper, with outdated gameplay, featuring stealth mechanics that even the first Splinter Cell in 2001 already did better. We don’t know if the German developers are trying to drown the fish by focusing on the technical aspect of their title, but clearly, they don’t have the level to make a video game in 2023. did not hesitate to point the finger, recalling in passing that Daedalic Entertainment has been developing another video game stamped since June 2022 and whose announcement has not yet been made. But after such an outcry with Gollum, it remains to be seen whether the rights holders of Tolkien’s works still want to work with the German studio…
