Jonathan Dahlén was nobbed by the San Jose Sharks – and the future is uncertain.
Can there be a return to Swedish hockey?
One detail speaks for itself.
Jonathan Dahlén has still not made a match in the SHL, but when he played in the Hockeyallsvenskan he reached record levels. He left Timrå last year, and could then look back on two seasons where he scored over 70 (!) Points.
Nobbed by the club
Dahlén initially gained a lot of confidence in the Sharks during the season, and he responded with goal success and many were already talking about a nomination place for the Calder Trophy, the prize for this year’s rookie in the league. But then Dahlén was injured, and then the score came much less often.
However, his first season in the NHL ended with a points harvest north of 20, and many had believed in a continuation in the Sharks. But the club chose not to give him any qualified bids, and he is now free to negotiate with other NHL clubs. And maybe even Swedish clubs.
That speaks for SHL relocation
Despite the fact that Dahlén passed away during his first season, the Sharks meant that he “did not compete enough”, and considering that the KHL is supposed to be excluded, the door may suddenly open for Swedish clubs. And what would then speak of a move to the SHL?
According to the hockey site Rakapuckar, Dahlén should “not fully appreciate NHL life”, which can therefore speak for a move home to a safer environment, ie in Sweden. And should a move home to Sweden become a reality, Timrå is probably well placed for a move.
“If there is no really good offer, it is conceivable that he beats Timrå a signal and checks if the business community up in Medelpad can imagine stepping in and taking his salary for a season or two (think the answer is” yes “here)”. writes Rakapuckar.
