Thomas Tuchel has been sacked by Chelsea.
Now the Swedish acquaintance Graham Potter is singled out as the replacement.
And there is a reason why the Englishman would be a perfect fit at a big club like Chelsea.
It hit like a bomb today that Chelsea sacks the manager Thomas Tuchel with immediate effect. The final straw for the club management was the big club’s unexpected 1-0 loss against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League opener on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea are looking
Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly has spent a couple of billions this summer and expects significantly better results from the club than what Tuchel has been able to deliver. The search for a new coach is already in full swing and three candidates have quickly been identified as potential replacements.
It is about Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and the success coach Graham Potter, according to English media. But the latest reports show that it is actually the Swedish acquaintance Potter who is at the very top of the wish list.
Potter’s success
The Englishman did a tremendous job with Östersunds FK in Sweden and, among other things, defeated Arsenal in the Europa League a few years ago. Lately he has been based over Brighton and has done wonders with the small club who are currently in a Champions League place in the Premier League table, ahead of giants such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in particular.
According to information, discussions have already begun with Brighton and there is a buyout clause of around SEK 200 million. A sum that probably does not scare Chelsea in the search for a new coach as quickly as possible.
Important detail
Graham Potter has long been an exciting name in English football and many have been waiting to see what he can do at a big club with significantly more money than Brighton. On Twitter, a crucial detail has also been pointed out which suggests that Chelsea should bet on the 47-year-old from Solihull.
The successful coach has already outwitted and defeated great coaches such as Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Erik ten Hag, Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger (with Östersund). It is extremely impressive from a coach who has only been with English clubs such as Swansea and Brighton.
