The consequences of the collapse of the dam will be visible in the Kherson region for years.
Four regions of Ukraine will have major difficulties in water distribution as a result of the destruction of the Kahovka dam. Water will not be able to flow to Crimea for at least a year, said a representative of Ukraine’s state-owned energy company Ukrhydroenergo Ihor Syrota Radio Svoboda on Monday.
Reported about it The Kyiv Independent.
– There is no water distribution to Crimea, because the water level in the Kahovka dam area is already much lower than what would be needed for the water to flow along the Crimean canal. Therefore, most likely, water will not flow to Crimea for at least a year, Syrota said in a radio interview.
The Kahovka dam collapsed on June 6, resulting in a huge humanitarian and ecological disaster in the Kherson region.
The consequences of the destruction of the Kahovka dam will be visible in the area for years. According to Syrota, Russia’s occupation of Crimea complicates other possible ways of water supply.
Kherson and other southern regions of Ukraine will have difficulties with water supply. Alternatives to circumvent the problem are being explored, especially to ensure the availability of drinking water, Syrota said.
