Exactly two years ago, GIF Sundsvall’s five-year plan was presented, where the goals were set high:
doubled turnover, a top-class academy where players could be sold for 10 million per year, an own women’s team in place and an average crowd of 5,000 people.
The future was spelled locally, talents from the northern parts of the country, which would become a stable Allsvenskan team.
No Allsvenskan next year
This year’s demotion has now changed the conditions.
– I don’t want to say that it has sabotaged the plan, says the club’s chairman Stefan Söderlund, who believes that the five-year plan remains, but needs to be reformulated.
This applies, among other things, to the timing of when the goals are to be achieved. At the same time, the situation is tough.
– We will not be able to replace the loss with increased revenue, notes Söderlund, who believes that a quick return to the Allsvenskan as early as next year would not be good for the club.
Has the right decision been made?
It is the board and its chairman who have the ultimate responsibility for the operations.
Has the board made the right decision?
– I think it is important not to let yourself be hindered by fear from making the necessary decisions, he says.
Shortly, Stefan Söderlund will present the direction the club must now take.
– I don’t want to precede the members’ meeting on 30 November, he says.
He does not want to give a clearer answer than that.
