The demonstrations continue in Malmö

In Malmö, the demonstrators continued to move through the city protesting Israel’s participation in Eurovision with smoke torches in the colors of Palestine. This after the announced march had ended.

A demonstration train, which according to the police on the spot does not have a permit, stopped at the triangle in central Malmö, and the police have blocked the entrance leading to Friisgatan, which during Eurovision serves as Eurovision Street.

According to TV4 Nyheternas’ reporter on the spot, the atmosphere between the police and protesters is fierce. Several of the protesters have tried to break through the police wall.

According to the police, the authorized demonstration held earlier in the evening was peaceful. But now later in the evening, a different mood prevails when young masked men have gathered at, among other things, Eurovision Street in central Malmö, where police officers equipped with helmets are trying to prevent demonstrators from entering the street.

– They are completely different types of protesters, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter, Maria Strångert on the spot.

Nine people have been taken into custody and one person has been arrested on suspicion of serious crime against the Knife Act, the police stated on their website during the day.

The police estimate that around 12,000 people participated in the demonstration against Israel’s participation in the Eurovision song contest.
