Soon moped cars may be a thing of the past. The vehicle class has long been criticized for its high emissions and poor safety, and now the Riksförbundet M Sweden demands that they be completely banned and make way for the development of A-tractors.
– Moped cars are actually very unsafe and have poor crashworthiness with a weak body made of plastic and fiberglass. They tip over easily and lack safety equipment, says Tony Gunnarsson, road safety expert at Riksförbundet M.
“A much safer alternative”
Despite the known problems, the moped continues to attract not least young users. But a growing interest in A-tractors has meant that the incentives to develop the vehicle have now increased and are therefore believed to have great development potential.
– A-tractors have a more robust construction because they are basically converted passenger cars. If you were to introduce seat belt requirements and make trimming more difficult, it is a much safer option for young people, says Tony Gunnarsson.
