In the Baltic Sea, southeast of Gotland, the company OX2 is planning its wind farm “Aurora”. They want to place a maximum of 370 wind turbines that are higher than 300 meters here.
The case, which is being prepared by the Gotland County Administrative Board, is currently out for referral. The armed forces do not go into more detail about why they say no, but refer to confidentiality. It is pointed out in the letter that the entire territory of Sweden and the economic zone constitute a consultation area for tall objects.
National interest
When it comes to national interest for total defence, one mentions as an example: “The areas may, for example, be connected to facilities for reconnaissance, communication and intelligence purposes.”
Today’s news has previously reported on the Swedish Armed Forces’ restrictive stance towards the various wind farms planned in the Baltic Sea, among other places.
It is the government that will ultimately grant permission or not.
