The defense nods to wind power investment on Åland

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The place is windy and is located between the Stockholm area and southern Finland.

“At the moment, the Armed Forces do not want wind turbines there,” says Jussi Karhila at the main staff Hufvudstadsbladet.

The justification is “national defense reasons”. Among other things, it is about the fact that the military’s surveillance equipment cannot “see” what is behind the tall wind turbines.

— We live in peacetime, but we see what is happening in Ukraine. We have to prepare that we see everything that happens in the air, on the sea and under the surface, says Karhila.

Around 300 of the wind turbines would have been erected by the Swedish energy company OX2. Just over 600 other Åland wind power projects received the defense’s approval last year, according to the newspaper Åland.
