In Italy, the death toll is rising in the wake of the devastating landslide on the island of Ischia outside Naples on Saturday. According to Italian media, at least six people have been found dead, including an infant.
TV4 News has visited Ischia after the devastation and has spoken to those who live in the small community of Casamicciola, where many have had their houses destroyed. Ciro Baldino shows around the remains of what less than two days ago was his home. His daughter and son-in-law are here helping out in what is really a paradise, but is now just a muddy hell
– I had a lot that meant a lot to me here. But now I don’t know if it’s possible to find them, the torrent took everything with it, says Ciro Baldino
The landslide on Ischia was triggered after heavy rainfall – and during Sunday large amounts of rain continued to fall in the region of Campania, where the island is located.
