The loss of life increased to 67 in the floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the city of Petropolis, which is located in the mountainous region of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. At least 54 houses were destroyed in the region, while 370 people who were left homeless were placed in shelters.
FEARS OF LOSS OF LIFE INCREASED
While the search and rescue efforts for those who were lost in the disaster were carried out with the participation of 400 firefighters, the number of people who disappeared has not been clarified yet.
Authorities, expressing their fear of increased loss of life, announced that 21 people have been rescued so far.
MORNING HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
While the Petropolis local government declared a 3-day state of mourning and disaster in the city, hospital staff were reinforced to better serve the victims.
