The Day Before was taken off Steam shortly after launch. But recently it seemingly reappeared on the gaming platform – what’s going on?
What happened to The Day Before? The game launched on Steam in December 2023, but was quickly discontinued. Players got their money back and the survival shooter closed the servers – The Day Before was no longer available on Steam.
But suddenly a game appeared that claimed to be The Day Before and looked similar at first glance. For example, the same developers and publishers were listed on the Steam page. However, if you looked closer, you quickly noticed that something was fishy about it.
Although you can no longer view the scam game’s Steam page, you can still find the data on SteamDB.
Here you can see a trailer for The Day Before:
“Game is so bad it turned from GTA into The Day Before”
If you look at the analysis website SteamDB, the scam becomes clear. For example, the game was not always listed under the name The Day Before.
If you take a look at the change list, the game was originally called Carrot The Cat. Additionally, this entry is dated four months before the launch of The Day Before.
In the meantime, the game apparently became GTA Brasil before it was renamed the failed survival game.
Steam user Fat Macc, for example, commented dryly in the reviews: “Damn, the game is so bad that it turned from GTA into The Day Before.[…].”
According to pcgamer.com, there wasn’t even a real game behind the scam. If you installed the “game”, you got a few bytes of data – nothing more.
Later things got even stranger. So there was an update on the scam game’s Steam page that attempted to explain the different title: “Carrot the Cat is the official codename for the return of TDB.”
The update continued:
We will now explain why we not only changed the entire page and ID of the game, but also the core of the game as a whole.
We are working with a studio that we won’t name for legal reasons, but we can assure you all that everything is under control.
The game’s files will be updated soon! With strong compression from 55 GB to 13 GB!
The site pcgamer.com then asked the real publisher of The Day Before for a statement and received confirmation of what one could already guess.
“MytonaFntastic has no connection to this site,” a spokesperson for the gaming company said. Steam was also contacted to draw attention to the account – apparently successfully. Because the Steam page is no longer available and can no longer trick players.
