The day after the boy’s death in Södertälje – memorial service and crisis support

It was during Monday morning that a minor boy was found injured in an apartment in Södertälje. Life-sustaining measures were taken, but the boy later died of his injuries.

On Tuesday, the boy would have had his first day of school after the Christmas holidays and at his school the flag was raised at half-mast.

Children reacted differently

– Some children were very sad, some were out playing as usual. It’s very different how children react, says Jenny Stanser, the primary school director in Södertälje municipality.

The head of the elementary school went out to the school on Monday afternoon and met the staff and prepared to receive children and guardians today. Extra staff and psychologists have been on site during the day and a memorial service was held for the nearest classes.

Arrested on suspicion of murder

In the apartment where the police were called, there was also an adult man who was arrested and later detained on probable grounds for murder. By Thursday at the latest, the prosecutor must decide whether the man should be remanded in custody or released.

Hear the head of the primary school tell more in the video above about how they support children and the guardian now and in the future.
