The conservative Danish People’s Party wants to change groups in the EU Parliament from the far-right ID to “Patriots of Europe”, for which Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is gathering support, reports Danmarks Radio.

In addition to Hungary’s Fidesz, Austria’s right-wing populist Freedom Party (FPÖ) and former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babi’s ANO party plan to join the group.

Danish People’s Party’s EU parliamentarian Anders Vistisen tells DR that the shift does not mean that they stand behind Orbán’s policies. The Hungarian Prime Minister recently visited Russia.

– We have been assured that foreign policy must be national, says Vistisen.

In order to start a group, at least 23 members from at least seven countries are needed.
