Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar found himself in the middle of a strange commotion during the Tour of Italy last week.
A week ago, the rider from the UAE Emirates team won the second stage of the race and came out on top of the overall race.
According to the traditions of the race, the leader of the overall race wears a pink shirt. The Slovenian appeared at the start line of the three stage in a racing overall, the upper part of which was pink, but the lower part was a little darker.
According to the International Cycling Union UCI, the leader must wear pants that match the shirt or, alternatively, the pants of his own team.
Connection was taken of Cycling News including contacting the UAE team and threatening Pogacar with disqualification if he used two different shades of red in the fourth stage.
The two-time Tour de France winner rode the stage in his team’s black shorts.
– I got the suit from the organizers. I liked it because it’s faster and better. I didn’t want to risk anything, so I raced in shorts and not overalls, Pogacar said.
– I can’t make strikes, because without a driving suit I’m not aerodynamic enough, Pogacar joked.
The coloring of the overalls was exceptional, because they wanted to honor the memory of the Torino football team that was lost in 1949, the company that designed the outfit, Castellini Sören Jensen told.
The top team of its time won five Serie A championships in a row in the 1940s. Except for two players, the entire “Grande Torino” team perished in a plane crash while returning from a match played in Lisbon.
Eurosport told on Friday that the race organizers, the UCI and Castelli met twice to discuss the wetsuit. The UCI decided that wearing the suit would not lead to action.
– Today I drive without clothes, Pogacar muttered in the comment section of the news.
He kept the humble outfit again in the 7th stage, which he won.
NRK’s cycling expert by Henrik Alpers in my opinion, the UCI has made a lot of noise about the case.
– With such threats, they make themselves bigger than the species. It is completely idiotic to even talk about punishment. Childish and unsportsmanlike, Alpers said on Saturday.
Pogacar leads the overall race by two minutes and 40 seconds.
