The curator in Umeå after the mass shooting: unthinkable suggestions do not benefit the school

Caroline Bergh calls for thoughtfulness after the deed in Örebro.

– Right now it really becomes a kind of competition in being actionable and it does not benefit the school. We do not need free solutions that are not well thought out.

She reacts strongly to the fact that so many security -creating proposals for the school are highlighted so quickly – suggestions that she believes are made in affection and do not feel well thought out.

– Now we have to come up with wise thoughts. We have to listen to our experts and our professionals. We have to take support in what the research really shows, says Caroline Bergh.

Do not want visitation at school

She thinks that the school is already subject to hard pressure and does not need more information, for example it should not have to function as a police station or a health center. One of the proposals that Bergh objects to is the visitation of bags – a measure that needs proper reflection, she says.

– What does it mean when staff who are going to create a relationship with children and young people are going to do these forms of privacy -violating acts? What is the responsibility for the staff if you find something? None of us are police officers. The school needs to be a school, says Caroline Bergh.
