The crisis in the US House of Representatives continues –

The crisis in the US House of Representatives deepens even more when the third Republican candidate steps aside from the race for speaker.

The newest Republican candidate Tom Emmer announced his withdrawal from the race just hours after winning his party’s nomination in a close vote.

Steve Scalise left the race almost two weeks ago, when it became clear that he would not be able to persuade the representatives of the far-right wing of the party behind him in a possible speaker vote.

Next, the Republicans in the House of Representatives nominated Scalise, who narrowly lost in the beginning by Jim Jordanwhich in turn is a favorite of the Republican far-right.

There was even time to vote three times for Jordan to become speaker, but he failed to get the necessary 217 votes. After the poor voting success, the party people decided to move Jordan aside.

The internal party squabbles led to the House Speaker, a Republican, earlier this month by Kevin McCarthy to removal from his position. The House of Representatives has already been paralyzed for three weeks due to the speaker drama. The speaker’s absence in the House of Representatives has also prevented the approval of new emergency aid to Israel.

Trump opposed Emmer’s selection

In Tuesday’s vote, Emmer received the support of 117 of his fellow party members. After the vote, Republican representatives had told reporters that 26 representatives would oppose Emmer’s appointment as speaker.

Some Republicans are said to have been outraged by how Emmer has supported aid to Ukraine and same-sex marriage. In addition, some of the party people had questioned his loyalty to the former president, who was running for the Republican presidential nomination Donald Trump towards.

Like a large part of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, Emmer had unjustifiably sown doubts about the president Joe Biden about the 2020 election victory, but Trump’s supporters were shocked by how Emmer had finally voted to confirm Biden’s election victory.

– He was not MAGA, Trump commented on Emmer’s withdrawal, referring to his own campaign.

Trump opposed Emmer’s election as speaker, but according to Emmer, the opposition did not affect his withdrawal.

– I made the decision based on my relationship with the meeting, Emmer said, referring to the majority of the Republican Party.
