In just over six months, Danish police have registered 32 cases where Swedes are suspected of having been hired to commit acts of violence in Denmark. This is shown by a new compilation that the police submitted to the Norwegian Parliament, writes Politiken. The 32 cases span from mid-April to early November 2024. Two of the cases are closed, in one case a 16-year-old boy from Sweden was sentenced earlier this week to 5.5 years in prison for attempted murder in Copenhagen. – Of course it sounds like a lot, but the number also says that it is clear that a phenomenon that I have seen in Sweden, where young people are hired to carry out acts of violence in another part of Sweden, has also spread across the country’s borders, says criminologist Sven Granath to TV4 Nyheterna. A gig economy Sven Granath compares the development in the criminal environment to the one we have seen with food delivery companies such as Foodora and Wolt – i.e. no permanent employees but the assignments are outsourced. – This can absolutely be called a gig economy, where we see that this industry may have undergone the same change as many other industries where you hire subcontractors and have a greater opportunity to find contractors in larger areas, says Sven Granath.
