The credit companies texted Bill Lundberg several times a week

At Bill Lundberg’s home, who now lives in a caravan outside Perstorp, we go through his phone together and count the number of text messages from creditors in the last month.

“Brings back nasty memories”

There will be a total of thirteen messages from five different companies. A company sends requests on eight occasions over the course of 22 days.

– It’s intrusive, I would never take out a loan today, but it brings back old nasty memories, says Bill Lundberg.

Month in and month out, the loan companies get in touch. It has escalated after New Year, says Bill.

– But I delete the text messages, I don’t want to see them.

Increasingly outreach

In 2018, the legislation was tightened when it comes to the marketing of credits, which must now be moderate. One reason why the law was tightened was that it was seen that the marketing had become increasingly outreaching and intrusive precisely because the same loan company contacted individual consumers on repeated occasions.

The law also states that the companies must take into account the type of clientele they contact, but does not expressly prohibit them from seeking out documented over-indebted persons, for example people with ongoing debt restructuring.
