In May, a report was made to the County Administrative Board regarding the hen Sven. The animal protection made the assessment that a hen should not live alone but with a herd. It is now up to the animal owners to find at least one other cousin.
Sven’s owner Evelina Rönnkvist has been looking for a friend of Sven. Several different hens have been introduced but nothing has worked.
– It has been a fight and Sven has felt very bad. He does not want to drink or eat and that has been the case for almost a week, says Evelina Rönnkvist who is also noticeably taken by the situation:
– It consumes us, the most important thing for us is that Sven is well but he does not seem to do it now.
The County Administrative Board about the situation
The County Administrative Board has received several reports about the hen Sven and decided that she must have one
– We have justified the decision by saying that hens are herd animals and in this constellation the hen does not get an outlet for its social behavior pattern. The owners have a longer period of time to find a solution and there are several good tips on how to go about it. For example, it is important to keep the hens close to each other in cages in the beginning so that they get used to scents and the like, says Kajsa Berggren, unit manager at the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten’s rural unit.
The plan is to appeal
Pet owners will appeal the decision.
– If the owners choose to appeal the decision, the case will go ahead and become a lawsuit, says Kajsa Berggren.
