The County Administrative Board wants Heidelberg Materials to reject its application for a 30-year quarrying permit in northern Gotland, the County Administrative Board writes in its statement to the Land and Environmental Court.

The County Administrative Board believes that the potential damage to groundwater and the natural environment risks being too great.

Alternatively, the County Administrative Board wants Heidelberg Materials to only be granted permission to quarry stone in northern Gotland under certain specific conditions, the authority writes in its opinion.

Heidelberg Materials, which operates the large cement factory in Slite, is seeking permission to mine a maximum of 114 million tonnes of rock, spread over 3.8 million tonnes per year over a period of 30 years.
