The Council of State rules that Utrecht may cut down 112 healthy trees along Europalaan

The municipality of Utrecht is allowed to cut down 112

The trees have to make way due to the redevelopment of the north side of Europalaan. This redevelopment has to do with the construction of a new district on the Merwedekanaal zone in Utrecht. The council wants 143 trees to be planted to compensate for the loss of the 112 trees. Of these, 118 must be replanted on site within three years. The remaining 25 cannot be accommodated within those three years due to the new district to be built and must therefore initially be replanted on Bernadottelaan. Later they can be moved to Europalaan, according to the council.
