Gluttonous Joey Chestnut celebrated American National Day as usual – by squeezing hot dogs.
The win at the annual Corvette Championship on Coney Island in New York was his fifteenth. There were 63 sausages with bread in ten minutes.
Miki Sudo, also a former champion, won the ladies’ competition with 40 sausages.
Chestnut was temporarily suspended from eating when a spectator dressed as Star Wars villain Darth Vader stormed the stage. The sausage master grabbed the neck of the person who was then escorted away by the organizers.
The 38-year-old competed with an injured leg.
– It hurts, but I was in the zone. I ignored it, says Chestnut, who broke a personal record last year with 76 sausages.
