The coronavirus ruined the chances of a championship for two

In recent years, Kangasala has experienced unbelievable moments when LP Kangasala’s games have been interrupted for two consecutive years due to a corona pandemic. Two years ago, games were interrupted by everyone. The team, which was in strong spirits last year and won the regular season show style, was quarantined in the middle of the semi-finals.

Libero on the team for a long time Tiiamari Sievänen admits that memories of recent years occasionally surface.

– I’ve tried my best to bring those memories to the background. Of course, there has been a slight fear of how to do it again. That can’t be the third year on the tube. But on the other hand, we can only do things as well and accurately as possible and hope we can play to the end.

Team coach Arttu Keränen according to the unfortunate interruptions of the season have not discouraged the players, they have only increased the team’s desire for success.

– We have more players who have not won the Finnish championship. They have been playing for a long time on the team and want to win the championship here. Last spring starved them too. For myself, quite a lot.

Keränen says that last year’s situation was discussed with the team.

– It wasn’t anyone’s fault. It is pointless to think about what could have been done differently. Our term ended for reasons completely beyond our control. Fortunately, we can now try again.

The championship would require complete success

This season the team was third in the regular season after Kuusamo and LP Viesti. Sievänen does not want to speculate on the championship yet, even though the team’s goal is clear.

– Maybe we’re not talking about the championship yet, we’re playing the semi-finals now. The first step would be to get there for the finals. But of course the Finnish championship is our goal.

Sievänen knows that the championship requires complete success from everyone.

– The whole team has to succeed. There are really a lot of tough teams this year and there are even teams in both semi-finals. The mid-level game doesn’t work out. Yes, you have to get button successes.

The team trusts a good team spirit on the field and in the stands

According to coach Keränen, the team invests in a good team spirit.

– Working together and blowing into one coal is especially emphasized in these main games.

Sievänen also agrees.

– In a bad atmosphere, no one can get the most out of themselves. We try to support each other, have fun and do things together. It goes a long way.

A good atmosphere also extends to team supporters. In the first semi-final match against LP Salo, a large number of away Kangasala fans were present.

– It almost felt like a home game when the encouragement was so good, Sievänen praises the supporters.

Keränen hopes that supporters will continue to find the auditorium. The last few years have been played in more or less empty auditoriums.

– It’s completely different when the audience is there.

Playing in her eleven main season, Sievänen admits that the personal fire for the championship is fierce. He played for the 2017-2018 season in Switzerland, where he won the national championship. However, he does not yet have the Finnish championship.

Kangasala won the first semi-final match against LP Salo. On Thursday, Salo equalized the victories of the match to the situation 1–1. Three wins are needed for the finals. The next match will be played on Saturday 2.4. from 6 p.m. In the second semi-final pair, Kuusamo and Hämeenlinna are facing each other.
