Special Prosecutor Robert Hurin and the President of the United States Joe Biden a written version of the five-hour discussions last October was delivered to Congress today, Tuesday.
As a result of the discussion, Hur decided not to press charges against Biden for keeping classified documents at home. Hur stated in a report published in February that the act was not intentional.
The fact that Hur justified his decision with Biden’s weak memory caused attention.
– We also note that Mr. Biden would likely present himself at the court hearing, as he did during the investigation, as a sympathetic, well-intentioned elderly man with a bad memory, Hur wrote.
The report was a wet rag for Biden, who is running for president again.
Biden’s weak memory and old age have been widely discussed in the public, and the majority of Americans consider Biden too old for another term. At least the report did nothing to change this perception.
It was because of the uproar caused by the report that Hur was summoned to a congressional hearing, and an interview between him and Biden was released.
Biden’s son was not asked directly
One controversial topic in public was the issue of Biden’s firstborn son, who died in 2015 Beau from the date of death. Hur wrote that Biden’s difficulty remembering the date of his death was one sign of memory loss.
Biden was angered by the statement and was irritated that his son’s death had been asked at all.
– When I was asked about it, I thought it was none of their business, Biden said.
However, it is clear from the transcribed conversation that Hur did not ask Biden about it, but the president brought up the date of his son’s death himself.
Biden recalled the events of 2017, when his term as vice president ended and he wrote a book about his son’s death.
– In what month did Beau die? Biden pondered what to pursue next.
– God of the Lord, May 30.
Biden’s lawyer supplemented the date with the year 2015.
– Did he really die in 2015? Biden asked again.
A few hints about bad memory
During Hur’s interviews, Biden emphasized that he did not remember how the classified documents ended up in his home.
– I don’t even have a smell, Biden said repeatedly.
The president mixed up some dates, but there was little indication of wider memory lapses. Various media such as The Guardian and AP have assessed that Huri’s claims about Biden’s state of mind were based on a rather thin screen.
Hur has defended his assessment and emphasized that Biden’s memory lapses kept coming up.
You can see in the video below how Hur justified his assessment of Biden’s state of mind to Congress.
In Congress, Hur’s hearing quickly turned into a fight between Republicans and Democrats.
Republicans saw the non-indictment of Biden as evidence of unequal treatment. They claimed that the presidential candidate Donald Trump the charges brought against him are part of a political manhunt.
The documents in Biden’s possession began to be investigated after a large amount of secret material was found in Trump’s Florida apartment. In Trump’s opinion, he had the right to keep the material and he also tried to prevent authorities from applying for them.
However, the authorities confiscated the documents, and Trump is accused of illegally possessing state secrets.
Several Democratic representatives, on the other hand, considered special prosecutor Huri’s characterizations of Biden’s memory inappropriate.
In addition, they emphasized that Biden had acted in a completely different way than Trump, because Biden voluntarily turned over the documents to the authorities.
