Government sources: The conversation did not go well at all • “The Danes are panicking about this”
Just over a week ago, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and US President-elect Donald Trump had a longer conversation about Greenland.
Frederiksen is said to have repeatedly said that Greenland is not for sale.
The source: “It was a cold shower”
Now five government sources have stated that the conversation did not go well at all. It was confrontational and aggressive, the sources said Financial Times.
– It was a cold shower. Before the conversation, it was difficult to take this seriously, but now I consider it serious and possibly very dangerous, says a source.
– It was terrible, says another source.
The Danes are “panicked”
Many European officials had hoped that Trump’s desire to control Greenland was a way to create a better negotiating position.
But now it has been realized that this is not the case.
– The Danes are panicked about this, says a source.
The Danish Prime Minister’s Office, on the other hand, believes that it does not recognize the sources’ interpretation, as stated in a comment to the Financial Times.
For some time now, Donald Trump has threatened Denmark with punitive tariffs if the country does not agree to his terms.
