Most recently, Tom Hardy’s Venom briefly strayed into the vastness of the multiverse. But now he’s back again. In Venom: The Last Dance, Eddie experiences being Brock’s slobbering symbiote third own screen adventure. This time it’s a mix of action-packed sci-fi blockbuster and planned road movie.
But how does the story continue? And does it even continue? Last but not least, the title of the film mentions a final dance. Have we seen the last of Hardy in the iconic anti-hero role? We clarify the most important questions about Venom 4. However, before reading any further expressly warned about spoilers.
Is Venom 4 coming to the cinema with Tom Hardy?
The bad news first: Sony has Venom 4 not yet announced. The Last Dance is officially marketed as the final installment in the Marvel series. Tom Hardy’s contract expired after three films. Director Kelly Marcel also confirmed this to the Hollywood Reporter. Venom and Eddie’s story has come to an end.
Specifically, Marcel says:
Yes, it’s the end [von Tom Hardys] Contract. We were asked to make three films, we delivered three, and who knows what the future will bring. I hope that in this third film we’ve laid the groundwork for other characters and other symbiotes and villains to work with if they want. But this is the last film for Venom and Eddie.
As final as it sounds at first glance: Marcel leaves various loopholes open between the lines. In many parts of the film itself it seems like the structure of a much larger story, especially in terms of Chief villain Knullwhose post-credit scene recalls the arrival of Thanos in the MCU.
Is Tom Hardy returning for a crossover with Spider-Man?
Hardy himself has indicated in several interviews that he certainly does open to further Venom appearances is. However, it is questionable whether this is necessarily Venom 4. After all, the figure is docked to both Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
What about a crossover with Spider-Man? Entertainment Tonight asked Hardy directly on the red carpet and received the following response:
I would love Spider-Man [in einem Crossover-Film] run across the path. We set out to do a trilogy and that’s what we did. This is where we are. We’ll see how [der Film] running and what other people want to do. If someone needs me, I’m there – 100 percent.
This clearly shows that Venom 4 depends primarily on one thing. If the third part does convincingly at the box office, it should only be a matter of time before a sequel or another spin-off is announced. For Sony, the Venom series is one of the most lucrative film series ever.
Is The Last Dance successful enough for Venom 4?
The box office numbers for the first weekend are rated as solid by the industry magazine Variety. With a budget of 120 million US dollars, the film was able to $175 million worldwide play in. That sounds very convincing at first. In a direct comparison with its predecessors, a decline can still be seen.
In the USA, Venom: The Last Dance only opened at $51 million. The 2018 release Venom and the 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, on the other hand, debuted with $80 to $90 million. Now part 3 has to prove that he is remain stable in the cinema for several weeks can and doesn’t collapse straight away.
At this point, it’s difficult to estimate how successful Venom: The Last Dance will really be. However, it will be close to the considerable sum of the first part, which grossed over 850 million US dollars can no longer connect. It will be more interesting to see whether the film can match the $500 million of the second part.
Venom: The Last Dance has been running since then October 24, 2024 in the cinema.
