The Conference League will be played in Helsinki in February | Sports in a nutshell

Iceland’s Víkingur Reykjavik needed a reserve field for their home match.

Even though HJK did not reach the league stage of the Conference League, we will still see the playoffs of Euro football in Helsinki in February. HJK tells on their websitethat on February 13, a match between Iceland’s Víkingur Reykjavik and Greece’s Panathinaikos will be played at the Töölö football stadium.

Víkingur needed a reserve field for the first part of the playoffs, i.e. their home match. The European football association Uefa did not grant the club permission to play the match in Denmark, because FC Copenhagen also plays in the Conference League playoffs. A suitable reserve field for UEFA was found in Helsinki.

– Uefa and Víkingur inquired about the possibility of playing in Helsinki, so of course we are happy to help, CEO of HJK Aki Riihilahti stated on HJK’s website.
