A look at old games reveals many surprises. Because even if some titles have been around for a few years, they can still impress with their graphics. Some users on Reddit came across this.
How time flies. Beloved games suddenly become older and no longer look so good compared to current titles. You notice this when, after a long time, you reach into the dusty library on Steam etc. and pull out something you’ve long forgotten.
The surprise is even greater when a game still looks really good. A user on Reddit had this experience. He shared a screenshot from the shooter Battlefield 4 and wrote: “I’m blown away that this graphic was possible in 2013.”

According to user InvidiuousPlay, one reason for the beautiful graphics is that the lighting is pre-rendered and not calculated live. In English this is called “baked lighting”. This means that the light cannot change, so a change in the time of day is impossible, but the image can be designed all the more consciously.
User JakeEaton even thinks that the graphics have stagnated a bit since 2013. If you look at the technological progress between 1994 and 2004, there was a much larger jump than between 2013 and 2024, he writes.
Even if graphics are of course not everything, they are still part of the gaming experience.
