The Swede’s assist on a strike at a perfect angle to goal scorer Blake Wheeler is now highly praised in the NHL.
The clip showing Wheeler’s facial expression immediately after the goal has also gone viral after the game.
The American goalscorer seemed to hardly believe his eyes after the passes from Zibanejad, which meant 1-0 to the New York Rangers in the first period.
– It was special. He is a special player and I am lucky to be on the ice with a player like him, said Wheeler afterwards.
Four goals in the final period by the Oilers
Despite the acclaimed start to the match, it was ultimately the visiting Edmonton Oilers who emerged victorious from Madison Square Garden.
After two goalless periods, the Oilers struck with four goals in just under seven minutes in the third, where Mattias Ekholm was noted for an assist.
Mika Zibanejad was behind one of the reduction goals in the final stages of the match, but the Rangers got no closer than 3-4.
