Jarl Magnus Riiberin on Saturday, the 26-year-old Norwegian already celebrated his 60th World Cup competition victory of his career – overwhelmingly, as so often before.
Sports expert Petter Kukkonen has been able to amaze Riiber’s results and actions for several years now. However, according to Kukkonen, Riiber’s incredible level is not only the result of training.
– We humans get what we carry throughout life in some kind of genetic lottery. Jarl Magnus has been really lucky in many ways and found a sport that suits him really well, Kukkonen stated in Urheilustudio.
Riiber is among the best in both ski jumping and cross-country skiing. According to Kukkonen, Riiber can challenge even special men on the hill, and the Norwegian coaches have also admitted this.
– According to them, there are not many better mountain men in the world. There may be five or ten better, but his level is incredible. On the hill jumping side, the power output of his legs is the same as that of the Norwegian national team.
In skiing, we often talk about the importance of maximal oxygen uptake. Skiers usually don’t want to share their readings, but in endurance sports the peak values are usually 80-90 milliliters per kilogram per minute.
– Jarl Magnus’ oxygen uptake capacity is 86 milliliters, which is an absolutely incomprehensible reading. Most cross-country skiers can’t get there either. And the trainability of his body is absolutely incredible, Kukkonen updated.
Of course, the downside for Riiber has been that he has been sick a lot for several years. He may be sick for weeks, but he only needs a month of training to get back to top form.
– It’s unbelievable how someone has such genetics. On top of that, there is also a talent for training and a huge desire to work. He develops ski jumping suits himself and puts everything into play. He is such a freak who cannot be coached or controlled, Kukkonen said.
– The coach of the Norwegian national team has said that he cannot coach this man. He has all the qualities once and for all only at that level.
