Cluster munitions, which are banned in many countries on the grounds that they cause civilian deaths, are also used in the Russia-Ukraine war. US President Joe Biden announced that he would support ammunition on the grounds that Ukraine’s ammunition was low, and the presence of cluster munitions among the ammunition brought along discussions. There has been a new development regarding the cluster bombs sent by the USA.
PENTAGON ANNOUNCED! “THE COMBAMS ARE CURRENTLY…”
US Department of Defense (Pentagon) Joint Staff Operations Director Lieutenant General Douglas Sims answered journalists’ questions at a press conference. Lieutenant General Sims, when asked by a journalist whether cluster munitions were delivered to Ukraine, replied, “Cluster munitions are now in Ukraine.”
“SOME OF THESE ARE PROVIDED BY A THIRD COUNTRY”
“Are the cluster munitions that you say arrived in Ukraine, US DPICMs (dual-purpose enhanced conventional munitions known as cluster munitions) or allied cluster munitions?” Asked Sims, “Both. We do know that some were previously supplied by a third country. But yes, the US cluster munitions are in Ukraine.”

USE PROHIBITED IN MANY COUNTRIES
A cluster munition is an explosive device, usually of small size, round and made of metal. It gets its name from the small marble-like metal balls found in it dispersed around the environment. Cluster munitions are munitions typically used for military purposes and can be effective against anti-personnel or anti-material targets. The marbles released during the explosion are capable of causing damage over a wide area. However, when used in civilian areas or for civilian targets, they can cause great damage and human casualties. Therefore, cluster munitions are prohibited under international law.
