Ville Oksanen will not continue as Johanna Matintalo’s personal coach. Vilma Nissinen is also changing coaches.
The A national skiing team has gathered in Kuopio for the opening meeting of the season, which this time is also colored by news from the coaching front.
Previously worked as the responsible coach of the women’s national team Ville Oksanen no longer continue Johanna Matintalo as a personal trainer. The duo’s collaboration started already in 2016.
Reached from Kuopio, Oksanen confirmed the matter to Urheilu.
– The cooperation has been long, and a lot of good things have been achieved. In the background, there is no break-up or things like that, Oksanen stated.
According to Urheilu’s information, the initiative to end the cooperation would have come specifically from Oksase, who is still coaching the national team.
Matintalo lives in Rovaniemi, but Oksanen has moved from Rovaniemi to Helsinki. Oksanen continues to be Matintalo’s common-law partner, a member of the national sprint team Lauri Vuorinen coaching.
– There are no changes to that, the work with Lauri will continue.
Matintalo has been part of Finland’s value competition lineups from Lahti since the 2017 World Championships. He was part of Finland’s 4×5 kilometer relay team that won bronze at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf.
In the individual sprints of the World Cup, Matintalo, who also belonged to Finland’s elite in the middle distances, has been on the podium twice. Planica’s World Cup last winter was a big disappointment for him after a promising early season.
Matintalo’s career is continuing, according to Urheilu Ville Ascending in guidance.
Other Finnish elite skiers Vilma Nissinen and Mikko Virtanen cooperation is over. The training programs of Nissinen, who moved to Vantaa, will be written in the future by an experienced, in recent years e.g. Virpi Sarasvuota and Aino-Kaisa from Saari crippled Jarmo Riski.
