— Clear weather, light wind, snow on the hill and a cold air mass. All those factors have aligned, says SMHI’s meteorologist Niklas Einevik.

The temperature was reported in by the measuring station afterwards. It has probably actually been even colder, according to Niklas Einevik.

— It has probably been colder in some place where we have not measured. It can differ ten degrees in just a few kilometers, depending on the terrain.

The lowest temperature ever recorded by SMHI was in 1966 in Vuoggatjålme, when the thermometer dropped to minus 52.6 degrees. The town is located approximately ten kilometers northwest of Arjeplog.
