The cold weather over in the north – now storms and “winter floods” are coming

It will be very windy in the Northern Lapland mountains on Monday. Strong winds combined with snowfall mean that SMHI issues an orange weather warning and in some places it can blow up to 30 meters per second.

“Among other things, it can be very difficult to move around and orient oneself, and there is a great risk of frostbite,” SMHI writes on its website.

The forecast is that the weather will continue on Tuesday as well.

Several water damages in the county

The Norrbottningen are used to the spring flood rolling in once a year. Last year it swept away an entire outdoor pool in Övertorneå and Elvira Larsson had to paddle across the strawberry land to save wood.

After the winter snow, it has started to thaw properly and at least during the night to Monday there has been a bit of a “winter flood” – the emergency services have responded to several alarms about water damage.

– We primarily help many people with turning off the flow. Many do not know where they have their ballofix* and sometimes the water has to be turned off from the street, says an alarm operator at SOS.

The cases during the night have been able to be dealt with relatively quickly.

* A ballofix is a valve used to shut off the water locally in an apartment (ed. note).
