The coast guard is investing heavily in the future – a major upgrade is underway

The large staff increase will give the Coast Guard a greater presence along Sweden’s coasts, including Västernorrland. More in service also strengthens their capacity to deal with various maritime challenges and emergencies.

In Västernorrland, the Coast Guard has two stations, one in Härnösand and one in Örnsköldsvik. Both expect to increase their workforce within the next few years. With a greater focus on total defense and crisis preparedness, the Coast Guard’s funding was increased by just over SEK 75 million last year.

This now means that the authority wants to increase the workforce, which Sweden’s Radio’s P4 Västernorrland be the first to tell. But how many more positions there will be in Västernorrland has not yet been decided.

Changed requirements for admission to basic education

The Coast Guard has removed the previous university education requirements for admission to the undergraduate program.

Instead, the courses are included as part of the basic education. The aim is to attract more applicants to the Coast Guard, according to Björn Kinert.

In the clip, you can hear him talk about his future plans.
