Daniel Ståhl aims for the world record.
And time is running out.
– It must come this summer, says his coach Vesteinn Hafsteinsson.
In recent years, Daniel Ståhl has been one of Sweden’s most successful athletes. The discus thrower has been completely dominant in his sport, and has accounted for several great successes.
In search of a record
The 29-year-old has piled the successes high in recent years, and the biggest came almost a year ago. Then Daniel Ståhl was the best when it came to most things, and took home the glorious Olympic gold in Tokyo last summer.
The company means that he now has both an Olympic gold and a World Cup gold on the merit list – but there is another award the Swede really longs for. Daniel Ståhl holds the Swedish record in discus, but is looking for the world record.
And if the Swede succeeds with a record listing, it should happen this summer. At least that is what his coach Vesteinn Haftseinsson thinks.
“Will be coming this summer…”
– If it is to be a world record, it should come preferably this summer. He (Ståhl) does not have many years left at the top. He can pick up major competition medals for a few more years, but the world record must come this summer, he tells EPN Sport.
If Daniel Ståhl succeeds with the feat, he stands for something no one else has succeeded with since the 80s. The world record in discus is almost 40 years old when Jürgen Schult threw a full 74.08 meters.
