The coach profile was fired and is now ready for league rival Färjestad – replaces the club icon in the booth

Färjestad failed in this year’s SM finals.
Now they act immediately and bring in a new coach.
Today came the bombshell that Johan Hedberg is ready for FBK.

Many had high expectations for Färjestad ahead of this year’s SM finals. They were singled out as the big gold favorite after winning the regular season in the SHL by a landslide.

Färjestad acts

There was a clear 0-4 loss against Rögle already in the quarter-finals and afterwards the internal criticism has been hailing. The sports director Richard Wallin acted directly and the club icon Pelle Prestbergassistant coach, had to leave the club in his heart.

The bomb in the SHL

Today, the news came as a bombshell that the 51-year-old is moving to league rival Färjestad and stepping into the booth as a new assistant coach to the head coach Tomas Mitell.
– I really liked what Johan did with Mora and the way they play with the puck. I think that, from the research we have done and in conversations with Johan, that he seems to have a nice balance between being able to both have good communication with his colleagues and players but also know when it is serious and set the boundaries that way . Johan also has incredible experience both as a player and coach from both the NHL and national teams and the whole thing. So it is an experienced hockey person that I look forward to working with, says sports director Wallin in a press release.

Hedberg is very focused on his new assignment and getting to join a big club in Swedish hockey. He has signed a contract valid for over a year.
– I think that when this appeared as an option, it was the option that felt the most fun. An association, a long-established association that has done very well for a long time. There are skilled leaders that I look forward to working with and learning from and developing myself. Hopefully also help develop leaders and players in Färjestad, he says in his first interview on the club’s official website.

The former NHL goalkeeper also sees no major problems with changing from head coach to an assistant role in the FBK booth.
I guess I don’t really see it that way. Of course it is if you look at the paper, but sometimes one step back is two steps forward. It will be fun to take on a task that I haven’t had paper before, but that I did a lot of both in Mora and also in San Jose, which is the offensive part with forwards. So I only look at it positively and look forward to learning from other talented leaders. See how Thomas works, it will be both Thomas, and also with the Mask. I go in with a very open mind and am very curious, says Hedberg.
