Modo picked up center Marcus Westfält.
To see him lost to Färjestad in less than a month.
Nu rasar Modos sportchef.
Modo accounted for a very good season in the hockey allsvenskan, and was before the playoffs favorites to make up for the SHL place with HV71. But the season was over after they lost to Björklöven in the semifinals.
Leaving for FBK
The club immediately started preparing the team for next season. Modo picked up center Marcus Westfält early from the competitor Västervik – but he got rid of him before he barely did any training with the club.
Rumors of a move to Färjestad began to gain momentum a couple of weeks ago. But according to Modos’ Henrik Gradin, these lacked substance – because they then became completely official that Westfält moves to FBK.
– Sure, there was interest but Marcus was clear that he wanted a different type of role and I got the feeling that he did not want to continue in his old role, Gradin says to Örnsköldsviks Allehanda.
“It’s another matter”
He continues:
– I understand that SHL attracts and I want it to do that for all our players. But in this case, Marcus has made an active choice and signed for us. It’s one thing if he played a year with us and did very well and then I understand that he attracts interest. That’s another thing.
Henrik Gradin is very disappointed with the center’s choice to leave Modo. The club also does not receive a penny in compensation – which the sports director thinks is completely useless.
– I think it is strange at all that he leaves us to play in a fourth chain in the SHL, that is probably what I can comment on, he says.
The SHL clubs have the opportunity to pick contracted players from the hockey allsvenskan until 10 July. A rule that Gradin rages against.
– It’s just as good that I do not think anything, he comments.
