Very few car competitions in Spain can boast of having celebrated their 50th anniversary. Something that the International Climb to the Fito is going to celebrate this year, between May 12 and 15, in a new edition that will also count towards the European Championship. The Asturian event celebrates its golden anniversary in style, surely in the smell of crowds as usually happens in the mountain that separates Arriondas from Colunga.

The famous viewpoint, from which you can see the wonderful Asturian landscape in all its splendor presiding over the complicated road, It has witnessed the passing of the best riders in the Mountain specialty since the competition was held for the first time in 1970. Then it started from Colunga, although in 1994 it changed to the opposite direction. Its technical layout and its impressive curves have been testing the cream of motorsport for half a century.

In addition to the beauty of its landscapes and its layout, The other great attraction of the Climb to Fito is the fans, that always respond en masse to his call. 60,000 fans regularly flock to its roadsides to enjoy the impressive mechanics and cheer on its drivers. In fact, it is not only the most important in Spain, but also one of the most followed in Europe.

The surname that appears most often in the list of winners of the 49 disputed editions is Vilariño, since the father, Andrés, triumphed seven times (1984, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003), and the son , Ander, in two others (2005 and 2007). The Italian Simone Faggioli managed to match his father with seven other wins (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018). For this important edition, a participation of more than a hundred cars is expected.
