Tampere Classic wins the men’s Finnish Cup championship in floorball. Last year the victory was decided in overtime, this time the opponent OLS was quite the opponent.

Tampere Classic already won the seventh floorball men’s Finnish Cup championship when it defeated Oulu’s OLS by no less than 9–0 (2–0, 3–0, 4–0) in the final event played in Hämeenlinna. For OLS, the place in the final was the first in the club’s history, last year Classic won the Cup with an overtime victory over SPV.
Classic Lassi from Toriseva became the second goalkeeper who was able to keep a clean sheet in the men’s cup final. Last time Josban was able to do this Vesa Turunen in 1992. Toriseva made 11 saves in the match, but was especially an important link in the second set, when OLS was able to grind the pipe for four minutes with superiority.
– It’s not every day that you get zero games. I guess he remembers this a little better than someone else, Toriseva stated modestly after the match.
– OLS knows how to move the ball and look for cross passes well. I have to give the boys credit for always having the blanket in place. It was easy to move to those “boys” when needed.
“It’s nice to win sometimes”
Juha Kivilehto achieved, among other things, four world championships and six Finnish championships as a player, but now the defensive legend got to celebrate the Finnish Cup championship as a head coach for the first time. According to Kivilehto, Classic didn’t play a full 60 minutes, but he gave credit to his players.
– In the beginning, we were a bit on the scaffolding, but it took off from there. You have to be really satisfied with how the players played today, he said.
The reigning Finnish champion is currently third in the F-League. Classic has suffered from numerous injuries during the season. According to Kivilehto, Classic has given others too much equalization and the team’s game has shown that it has not been able to train properly.
Before the Finnish Cup, Classic has narrowly lost both the Champions Cup and Super Cup finals this season. In January, IBF Falun won Classic 2–1 in the Champions Cup and in September SPV 9–5 in the Super cup. That’s why winning the Finnish Cup tasted all the sweeter.
– Yes, we always go out to win. The losses have been sad, but it’s nice to win sometimes, Toriseva laughed.
