The show’s assistant director Mirja Jauhiainen has worked in the circus world in both Finland and Sweden. She believes that the cultural differences between the countries are large within the industry.
– In Sweden we have Cirkus Cirkör, which is clearly the biggest actor in the circus world. In Finland, there is no such large player. Instead, there are more small, independent groups that make their own productions, says Mirja Jauhiainen.
Therefore, she believes, the conditions for work in the circus industry look different in the two countries.
– There are perhaps more job opportunities in Sweden than in Finland, thanks to actors like Cirkus Cirkör. In Finland, however, you have greater opportunities to make your own productions, says Jauhiainen.
Concept of societal structures
“Tipping Point-Balancing in a Time of Change” explores what it is that holds societies and democracies together. The underlying question is: what happens when the most basic social structures collapse?
The show is performed by a musician and five circus performers. One of them is Finnish Kalle Pikkuharju, who specializes in handstands and contortionism.
In the video, Pikkuharju shows off some moves that require a lot of dedication.
