Gällivare parish must not demolish a church that is empty and unused. All Saints’ Church in Malmberget has too much cultural and historical value, states the county administrative board, which says no to the demolition, NSD writes.

The church has been completely closed since the end of November last year. The congregation saves money that way, and has applied to demolish the building.

– There is currently no immediate obstacle to the church remaining on its existing site. From a cultural-historical point of view, however, the best long-term alternative would be for All Saints’ Church to be moved to another location and preferably for it to continue to be used as a church, says building antiquarian Andreas Grahn, at the county administrative board in Norrbotten, to the newspaper.
