The Christmas week begins with lightning storms

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

It is a precipitation area from the Atlantic that moves in over the west coast with milder temperatures and precipitation probably mainly in the form of rain.

— But down at the surface, it’s below zero in most places. So when the rain falls on these surfaces, a lot of ice will form, says Viktor Bergman, meteorologist.

Very close to the coast, it looks like it will be so warm that there is no major risk of ice slipping, but otherwise the warning is issued largely from Skurup in the south to just north of Lake Vänern.

“It is a bit uncertain how much snow there will be over the inner and northern part of Götaland,” says Bergman.

Uncertain Christmas forecast

The low pressure then moves north during Tuesday. It can also be icy over other parts of Svealand. Over Norrland, precipitation mainly falls in the form of snow, where Västerbotten can receive relatively abundant amounts.

In Götaland and large parts of Svealand, it can be 1–5 plus degrees on Tuesday and rain showers.

TT: It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a white Christmas there?

— Well, then we’ll probably have to hope that it snows just before Christmas.

The fact is that it is unusually uncertain how the color of Christmas will be this year so close to Baptist Day.

— It is slightly colder air that will start to flow down from Thursday. It seems that some kind of low pressure with rain and snow will pass in the south, but exactly when and where is much more uncertain, says Bergman.

Minus in the north

If the low pressure takes a northern path, there may be snow over Svealand, if it chooses a more southerly path, Scania may have a white Christmas. So theoretically there could be snow in Skåne, but bare ground higher up in the country.

— The possibility exists, but it is one of many different options that I see right now, says Viktor Bergman.

The snow may arrive on Friday, but also not appear until Christmas Day.

— In terms of temperature, it seems that on Christmas Eve it will be minus degrees from northern Svealand and northwards. That much I can say, says Victor Bergman.
