The choice of a new leader for the Center Party will be a closed process, according to Pelle Skogberg, media advisor for C’s nomination committee.
– It is estimated that there is no time, he says.
The Center Party Nomination Committee is currently working on washing a successor to Muharrem Demirok, who resigned from the party leader’s post last week after great turbulence in the party.
Now C’s circles, unions and districts have the opportunity to nominate candidates for two more weeks, until mid -March. Individual members can also submit names.
“There is a deadline to relate to,” says Pelle Skogberg, media advisor for the party’s nomination committee, without specifying any exact date.
Important milestone
On May 3, the party will hold the Extraordinary General Meeting where the new party leader is elected. The meeting will be held physically but the place is not yet public. Before that, the nomination committee will also present its candidate, which is an important milestone.
– It is not said other than that it should happen in the best possible time before the Extraordinary General Meeting. The nomination committee works constantly, they have a “on going” assignment, says Skogberg.
There are several conceivable names that have refused to candidate, such as EU parliamentarian Emma Wiesner and former center top Emil Källström. If these are contacted even though they said no, Skogberg cannot answer.
“Otherwise they have failed”
– The nomination committee’s mission is to develop a name that is so well rooted that it will go through, otherwise they have failed with their mission, he says.
The last time the Center Party chose a new party leader, it happened through a partially open process where the three candidates were asked in different live broadcasts. So it won’t be this time.
– No, what I have heard is that you judge that there is no time. The nomination committee says it will be open to members but not to the public, says Skogberg.
