The Chinese telephone giant Oppo left France last summer. It marks its big comeback a year later with the Reno 12 and 12 Pro, two smartphones with aggressive prices and, of course, equipped with a small dose of AI.
On May 24, we announced the return of the Chinese brand Oppo to French territory. After his departure in July 2023, following the cessation of activity of Yang Technology, its exclusive distributor, Oppo left a big void in the smartphone market in France, leaving the field open to hungry competition. The firm is therefore getting back on track and begins its arrival with two new models from the Reno family, mid-range devices. And the least we can say is that Oppo intends to make up for lost time by striking a big blow straight away.
Oppo Reno 12 and 12 Pro: attractive prices but not only that
To mark its return to France, Oppo is laying solid foundations. The brand is therefore launching the Reno 12 and 12 Pro at the respective prices of 449 euros and 549 euros. Enough to reshuffle the cards and make a mark with Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola and Samsung. For this price, the devices have a balanced configuration built around a 6.7-inch FHD+ Amoled screen at 120 Hz, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC, and 12 GB of RAM and a 5000 mAh battery.
The differences come down to the storage capacity (256 GB for the first and 256 GB for the second) but also the photo mount. The Reno 12 has a 50 Mpx main module, an 8 Mpx ultra wide-angle, a 2 Mpx macro module and a 32 Mpx selfie camera. The Pro model pushes a little further with a 50 Mpx main module, a x2 telephoto lens of also 50 Mpx, an 8 Mpx ultra wide-angle and a 50 Mpx selfie camera. For the price, no IP68 certification but only IP65 for waterproofing. On the other hand, the 12 Pro model is adorned with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass and the Reno 12 with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i glass to resist shocks and scratches.
Finally, on the software side, Oppo also deploys artificial intelligence on board its devices with generative AI, particularly for photo processing (best shot, magic eraser, sharp faces, creation of original portraits, etc.). We’re waiting to see how MediaTek’s SoC fares from this exercise.
The Reno 12 and 12 Pro will be available for pre-order from June 21 and will fill the shelves from July. Mid-range devices which represent a nice appetizer before the probable arrival of premium models generally praised by critics from the FindX series for the start of the school year.
