Communications director Matti Kataja answers SVT’s questions in writing:
“If we can’t work safely, we don’t work at all. Our operations are surrounded by rigorous security arrangements and are subject to strict environmental permits.
We take all the measures we can to be able to work in a safe manner and we work continuously to prevent incidents and minimize risks in the workplace. We report incidents to the Swedish Work Environment Authority in accordance with their guidelines and investigate them.
We would rather report an event one time too many than too few.
The technical systems and physical protections around chemicals are extensive. Where required, we of course have systems with sensors for measurements.
In addition to our own specialist expertise in chemistry, we work with some of the world’s leading experts in the field. We have our own internal rescue service which has in-depth knowledge of our operations and which, if necessary, can cooperate with the municipal rescue service.
We ourselves carry out daily inspections of our operations and we carry out regular inspections together with the union’s safety representative, in addition to that the licensing authorities make regular visits to us.
Everyone who works here has the training and protective equipment required to be able to perform their duties.”
