During the weekend, the Swedish Chess Championship took place in Uppsala. In connection with this, Håkan Jalling was re-elected chairman of the Swedish Chess Federation. Håkan, who has long been a big profile in Swedish chess, got a big surprise when this year’s honorary medal was to be awarded at the congress in Uppsala yesterday.
– I was surprised, I found out just before they would announce who would get the medal.
Finest medal
The medal, which is named after Ludvig Collijn – founder of the Swedish Chess Federation – is the finest award a elected representative can receive. To be eligible for the Medal of Honor, you must have been an active leader for at least a ten-year period.
– It feels great. It’s nice to be noticed. This makes you encouraged to continue working hard for the best of chess.
After the Swedish Championships this weekend, Håkan now hopes to enjoy this weekend’s award.
-I have not had time to celebrate yet, but I will when I get home.
