With patch 14.19 in League of Legends, Riot Games has removed a popular feature from the game, which has disappointed many LoL players. MeinMMO tells you what’s behind it.
What is the LoL feature? When you destroyed wards, you got some experience points (EXP) and gold. But with patch 14.19, this mechanic was removed.
Wards no longer give experience points when they are destroyed. Riot Games believes that the gold reward alone is enough to make eliminating wards worthwhile. Additional experience points are therefore no longer necessary.
Riot also says the following:
Wards no longer grant XP when killed. This was a minor and invisible mechanic that nonetheless had the potential to put the Ward user at a significant disadvantage by allowing enemies to level up sooner. […]

What do the players say? Players’ reactions to the change that wards no longer give experience points are mostly negative. Many fans complain that Riot is simplifying the game and removing mechanics that rely on deeper game knowledge.
Some players see this as a nerf to the support role. Others express general dissatisfaction with Riot’s balance team. Support players are especially disappointed.

Why are players annoyed by this? Supporters are particularly affected by the change. The role ensures that most wards are placed on the map and they mostly eliminate the opponents’ wards in order to establish map control.
The removal of the XP reward has left many support players feeling disadvantaged. They often leave the lane to place wards – or to destroy enemy wards. By taking on this additional task, however, they also miss out on experience points in the lane.
