The change at SAS – applies from 1 September

The change at SAS applies from 1 September

The customer-exclusive bonus program SAS Eurobonus has been offered to the company’s travelers since 1992. Like other points systems, the consumer wins various discounts and bonuses for flying with and shopping with SAS.

The points have been able to be redeemed even for the customer who shopped at companies connected to Star Alliance, something that will change.

On September 1, SAS ends its collaboration with Star Alliance and instead re-establishes one with Skyteam Alliance, which entails some adjustments to the previous bonus system. The reason is that the airline has a new owner – Air France-KLM – which is part of the Skyteam Alliance. Expressen was the first to report on this.

SAS’s new points system – it disappears

The first change means that the so-called base points disappear – these were previously earned by shopping with airlines within the Star Alliance. The difference between base points and extra points is that the base points are earned when you fly with SAS.

The other change is the extra points, which are now renamed bonus points. They can be earned when the customer shops at one of SAS’s partners. Just as before, these can be earned via the Eurobonus debit card.

The third change is that status points are renamed to level points. As the new name suggests, these points are used to reach a higher membership rank that allows the customer to receive more discounts.

The most noticeable change for the customer, however, is that SAS members now have other places to earn Eurobonus.

It happens with your old Eurobonus

SAS themselves believe that all previous customers of the airline retain their current points. Those who have a so-called silver membership or higher will in the future be able to take advantage of even more benefits in connection with SAS’ transition to the Skyteam Alliance, according to The Express.
